Christmas with Fergie's family (Part 2)
As if one holiday meal wasn’t enough, the day after Christmas here is Boxing Day and involves eating another big meal! We went to his Aunt and Uncle’s house in the next town over for another lovely meal.
The guys hung out and talked about guy stuff…
And after lunch we took a bunch of pictures in front of the Christmas tree.
We left Nate with Fergie’s parents on...
Christmas with Fergie's family (Part 1)
We set out early Thursday morning to Fergie’s parents’ house out on the East coast of England, not far from Norwich (pronounced Norrich, obviously). This was my first time meeting Fergie’s parents and my first time spending Christmas away from my family, so I was feeling quite a mix of emotions. Would they like me? What is Christmas going to be like without piles of presents,...
The official dachshund meetup for Sunday afternoon was cancelled due to snow, but a group of dachshund owners were getting together not far from where Fergie’s friends live in South London. Since we were planning to go watch football there, we decided to stop by.
Unfortunately, Nate had his cranky pants on. So while the other dogs were doing awesome stuff like running around with sticks...
Bonus points for London
A homey pub with Christmas decorations and a fireplace…
where we can play Clue (or Cluedo as they call it here)
AND bring Nate?
Last night, I burned a pan of potatoes and evaporated a pan full of chicken stock I thought was on simmer (it wasn’t). I also did this.
Today I dumped an entire box of pepper on myself and the floor and proceeded to sneeze for the next 5 minutes.
So tonight, I’m not going anywhere near the kitchen. We’re going to celebrate the fact that we were approved for the flat I fell...
Lady of Leisure
I had plenty of time on my hands today since Nate was wearing his cranky pants and didn’t feel like walking in Hyde Park much.
First, I picked up some mince pies for dessert from an adorable bakery in Kensington called Clarke’s. I’d read good things about their mince pies, so hopefully they don’t disappoint!
A real lady of leisure doesn’t discount shop, but I...
Ministry of Food Exhibit & Christmas Market
On today’s field trip (seriously, it’s starting to feel like I’m just on one giant class trip), I visited the Imperial War Museum. I’m certainly not a war buff, but the museum itself was great and very well done. However, I was there for one reason: food.
I’d seen signs all over the tube for this exhibit and considering my love of food and how my Grandma and I...
Dinner at The Square
I once said to Fergie that when in doubt when picking a restaurant, go with the Michelin stars. I think he took this to heart because Part II of my birthday present (Part I was Taste of Christmas) was dinner at a fancy pants 2 Michelin starred restaurant in Mayfair, The Square.
We did the 3 course meal and after 2 rounds of amuses bouches, including 5 different nibbles (sorry I forgot to take...
I don't know if I can get onboard with this...
I understand that moving to a new country involves adjusting their culture and customs (and not calling their country backwards because it hurts Fergie’s feelings), but this laundry thing has me stumped. First, we put the laundry in a washer/dryer with detergent that looks like this.
Then, the machine washes it and spins/heats it, but not enough for it to actually get dry so we have to...
The first few days in London
I’m not going to lie, they have been HARD. From missing my family and friends to our heat and hot water going out for a day and a half, it’s been difficult and I’ve had a few meltdowns on the way.
We arrived on Wednesday morning and Nate made it safe and sound. As you can see, Virgin Atlantic decked his crate out in stickers. After I got my baggage, Fergie and I caught a cab...
